Current registration status confirms the new exhibition dates of spoga+gafa

The long-term rescheduling of the exhibition dates of spoga+gafa to June, including the one-time date at the end of May to the beginning of June in 2021, is already a total success. The current rebooking figures corroborate this. In spite of the worldwide challenges, just under nine months prior to the next spoga+gafa, with a booking status of over 90% the applications are at a pre-Corona level and indeed in most exhibition halls this level has been exceeded.

The current exhibitor status is a clear signal: The long-term rescheduling offers the exhibitors new cross-industry opportunities for their business because it is more in line with the industry’s changed ordering behaviour. Not only existing exhibitors registered with in some cases significant expansion requests, but a pleasing number of companies that didn’t take part in the past years have also registered to participate. This applies among others for the BBQ and decoration sectors, for Hall 6 with its technology and equipment customers as well as for the furniture section.

Dear exhibitors, dear visitors,
dear friends and partners of spoga+gafa,
dear colleagues,

Fantastic exhibitor feedback, visitor figures up once again and thus the announcement of the fifth record spoga+gafa in a row. That might well have been probably yesterday, on the third and last day of spoga+gafa 2020; if the world had continued to turn “old-normal”. But it wasn’t to be. The circumstances leading up to the cancellation are known and have been sufficiently discussed. We were prepared, Cologne was ready, and so were many of our exhibitors and visitors.

Today, in early September – and thus in the time that we talked about again and again and made prognoses about during the weeks and months leading up to the cancellation on 6 July – we ask ourselves what would have happened. Would we have had a chance of success, had you been prepared to travel? How many visitors and exhibitors would have come? Conversations with colleagues from other countries – countries in which trade fairs have long been taking place again – have informed us that those events that have taken place have done so successfully for many parties and have all exceeded expectations in terms of their results. The follow-up meetings were concerned less with the quantity than with the quality of those attending, the business that was done and the efficiency of the discussions. The decision-makers for product range, procurement and product came together in a way that exceeded expectations, which makes us glad for those involved and confirms us in our belief that trade fairs are possible, not only in the future but also right now. They are possible when we all come to the dance with the right expectations, for now as then, quality has priority over quantity.

Nonetheless, we still believe that the decision to cancel the 2020 trade fair was correct. We want to say thank you for the feedback, both internal and external, that we received on our way to taking that decision and afterwards, and we are very grateful for it. If the hundreds of discussions held in the last months have accomplished one thing, it’s the mutual trust between us to act as equal partners. We are considering the needs of our green garden lifestyle sector even more than previously in our actions. The discussions that we have held concerning the status, the opportunities for the future and the interests of our exhibitors and visitors from across the segments have brought us to the conclusion that spoga+gafa should now be permanently held at the end of the first half of the year.

The talks and scenarios of recent months and years have shown that June offers a significantly large overlap of the changing needs of suppliers and their target retail market. We have clearly seen that the new date has been well received. The reorientation offers opportunities for everyone, and no one will find it impossible. September has strengths, but June repeats and changes them. In past years the participants often focused on the targets brand building, networking and PR alongside the presentation of products, and these special benefits of spoga+gafa are also available in June. The new date also offers many of the trade fair’s partners the opportunity to present their products to the trade at an earlier point in time. The feedback we are receiving from exhibitors and visitors alike shows that both those customers addressing large-scale retailers and those targeting the specialist trade see outstanding opportunities in the June date. Here we would like to once more make the point that next year’s date at the end of May is a one-time exception. In subsequent years, as far as our trade fair schedule permits, the event will be held in the middle or at the end of June. The discussions that we held prior to the announcement with the respective branches of the specialist trade – be they the furniture customers or, for example, those active in the barbecue segment – have shown that people can live with coming to Cologne as early as the end of May one time. Of course the dates for the following years, in the middle or at the end of June, will subsequently be preferable for our partners.

As far as the exhibitors are concerned, we should not deceive ourselves. Some of our partners will not find it easy to adjust their accustomed product cycle slightly to the new trade fair dates in the first year and to have their products ready for presentation a good two months earlier. The companies affected, however, have made clear in the dialogues concerning the basics of the desired rescheduling that they see the change as manageable and thus regard the early date as the best that could be chosen. If we look at the rebooking numbers, it is clear that all of the halls are not only reacquiring the previous exhibitors but also attracting a significant number of registrations from companies that have not participated in recent years. This is the case for the barbecue and decoration sectors, for example, for Hall 6 with our technology and equipment customers and also, in particular, for the furniture sector. Consequently, in all of our exhibition halls, our motto is “Together, through one May and then happy in June”.

Dear companions of spoga+gafa, yesterday we could not drink a glass of Kölsch beer together at your stand or at one of our parties. But we’ll do it again soon. At the biggest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world. In Cologne. We promise.

DITP, Thai Chamber of Commerce and Koelnmesse Affirm to Hold “THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2020” in “The Hybrid Edition” of Tradeshow Combining Both Offline and Online Elements This 22-26 September

The Department of International Trade Promotion (DITP), the Thai Chamber of Commerce (TCC) and Koelnmesse from Germany, the official organizers of THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA2020, affirmed their readiness to host THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2020 between 22-26 September 2020 at IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani. THAIFEX this year presents the new hybrid edition of the trade show to align with the New Normal lifestyle under the name THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2020 “The Hybrid Edition” where offline business negotiations will be held in conjunction with online. THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2020 has received positive responses particularly from companies seeking to leverage new opportunities with 708 exhibitors, in total, who are committed to attending this year’s offline trade show, consisting of 519 business operators in Thailand and 189 international exhibitors across 15 countries participating through their representative offices in Thailand.

THAIFEX – ANUGA ASIA 2020 is destined to connect the exhibitors with international buyers in order to stimulate the fast recovery in food and beverage industry through technology while catering to the demands of overseas F&B businesses and importers who are unable to travel to Thailand. DITP also highlights a virtual product showcase, THAIFEXporter Virtual Trade Show, which is to be held jointly.

As for the offline event, food and beverage product showcase is taking place at IMPACT Arena, Exhibition and Convention Center, Muang Thong Thani, with the newly added exhibition in front of the hall under the concept of EAT RESPONSIBLY. This means that games and their communities were already pointing a finger in the direction of gamescom, because, although the world’s largest games event of the year could not take place on location in Cologne, it will still bring millions of gamers together in 2020 to follow the biggest new products and news and to celebrate games culture.

Trend “New console generation”

The successors to the current generation of consoles have been announced for the end of the year with the PlayStation 5 from Sony and the Xbox Series X from Microsoft. Millions of fans worldwide are already waiting with longing for the new devices. The new console generation is thus the top trend of this year’s gamescom. Finally, there will be many announcements and much news revolving around the consoles in the context of gamescom at the end of August, only a few weeks prior to its start. The new models offer especially high performance, thus enabling gaming worlds of a magnitude and wealth of detail that have been impossible to realize up to now. The new devices master, among other things, so-called ray tracing, with which a novel calculation of light enables especially realistic graphics. Where one needed an entire computer centre for this a few years ago, this will soon be found in the new consoles in the living room.

Trend “Games at school”

Corresponding with the start of the school year in many federal states at the end of August, the second gamescom trend this year is “Games at school”. There has already long been a large and varied offering of serious games, with which one can learn playfully. More and more parents and children trust in such games. Due to the corona-related closures of schools, the need for them has increased dramatically. However, the corresponding serious games have to date primarily been used at home and in the private realm. Serious games have many positive qualities that also provide help with teaching and learning in school: they are fun, motivate, and thus improve learning success. Unfortunately, many schools in Germany are still too poorly equipped to consistently include serious games in the school routine. Which is why the focus of the gamescom congress is also on digital education this year. There, among other things, best practice examples will be shown and the exchange between educators promoted.

July 2020 – The application phase for the gamescom award 2020 has started: Official partners of gamescom can submit their games and products to the awards office until 7 August, 4:00 p.m. The gamescom award is presented in a total of 27 categories. Selected winners will already be announced on Thursday, 27 August 2020 in the context of the big, international gamescom: Opening Night Live opening show. All other prizes of the gamescom award 2020 will be presented on Sunday, 30 August 2020 in the context of the gamescom: Best of Show.

Due to the corona pandemic, gamescom is this year taking place exclusively in digital form for the first time. In keeping with this new gamescom format, the gamescom award is coming with a series of innovations. For example, the categories have been revised: categories like Best Booth will not be considered this year. The “gamescom global Awards” category group is being supplemented with the new categories of “Best Announcement”, “Best Lineup” and “Best Presentation/Trailer”. A new addition to the genre categories is “Best Remaster”, and the jury will vote on the “Most Wanted Hardware/Technology” in the Platform category group. gamescom fans now decide the “Best Show” for the Consumer Awards.

For a successful entry, the submission form for the gamescom award must be filled out and sent to the awards office by the deadline. The basis of assessment for the jury are ten-minute gameplay videos. More precise specifications for the design of the video can be found in the rules.

spoga+gafa suspends for 2020, changing to new date

spoga+gafa takes place once at the end of May in 2021, then in the middle or end of June

At the request of the industry, Koelnmesse is moving the date for spoga+gafa to the first half of the year. In future, this means that the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world will be held at a time more convenient for orders by large segments of the industry.

With the entire area almost fully booked the spring of 2020 and thus outstanding registration levels for spoga+gafa, the trade fair situation increasingly came to reflect the current developments around Covid-19 and the economic situation. The news about new cases of infection in Germany played a role, as well. The current travel situation is still uncertain, too – particularly at the intercontinental level. That is why in recent weeks a large majority of exhibitors and trade visitors decided not to attend spoga+gafa after all. In the end, the extensive preparations for the trade fair and the #B-SAFE4business package of measures for the coronavirus- compliant implementation of our trade fairs were not enough to calm the hesitancy amongst trade fair attendees. For this reason Koelnmesse reassessed the overall situation together with the Advisory Board and decided that it was best to respond to the cancellations and wishes of a large number of industry exhibitors and visitors by not implementing spoga+gafa 2020. In future, spoga+gafa will take place in the middle or end of June. Only in the coming year will it take place unanimously from 30 May to 1 June.

spoga+gafa generated the growth seen in recent years – in terms of exhibitors, space and visitorship – through a particularly close cooperation with the garden-lifestyle industry. Koelnmesse has always placed its focus on the needs of its industries. The development of spoga+gafa into a globally relevant platform for added value and communication was and remains the strategic focus of this trade fair. Building upon this, Koelnmesse used the impacts of the very recent past and, together with the deliberative bodies involved, consulted about the future date for the largest garden lifestyle trade fair in the world.

On rescheduling spoga+gafa to the first half of the year, Koelnmesse COO Oliver Frese observed: “The aim of our conversations with the industry is to work together to give a strong trade fair a chance to gain even more strength and market relevance. The focus here is on the ordering behaviour seen in many parts of the industry, which has evolved over the years. To make this event even better the spoga+gafa 2021 will take place once at the end of May, and from 2022 on it will take place in mid or late June.” Further information will follow shortly.
